16 of 40

16 of #40skidays

I have so far had 5 trips to Austria and skied for a total of 16 days. Having started posting blogs for each trip I've come to realise I need to spend a lot more time recalling so many things from these little visits before posting, then updating, then re-posting etc etc so for now..

my ongoing Instagram photo journey here instagram.com/ajhedgecock or do a hashtag search for #40skidays on Instagram.

..and I will put a full account of my 40 days and bits in between over the next few months

#40skidays. The origin

So here's the blog about my Ski season plans for 2013/14. Without going into all the details about my skiing history right now, all I will say is that I am very addicted and obsessed with the sport. So when I had a PPI claim come through during the summer of 2013 I decided to pay off a few debts and buy a season ski pass for a few trips to Austria.
The hard part was choosing which area the pass should cover, as I was planing a cheap trip to the Ski Welt for a bunch of people at the pub I decided the Alpen All Star Card would do the trick. This covers from Kaprun/Zell am See in Salzburg through to the Wildschonau in Tirol.
After buying the card I then started looking at flight prices. Flying BA proved the cheaper option with complimentary on board food and drinks, Check in baggage that allows for ski carriage and joining the Executive frequent flier programme clocks up travel points to acquire discounts and other useful things.
The idea of a total of 40 ski days came to me when I started considering how many times to go out. The ski pass is valid from November to May and I began to think about one trip a month, or maybe two smaller trips each month. With the remaining balance from the PPI claim sitting around £2k I drew up a budget plan. With a ski holiday already planned for April with some good friends and close family the idea that 40 days of skiing came to me. The April trip is booked to ski on my birthday, 9th April. I'll be turning 40yrs old so I wondered if I could make that day the 40th ski day.
And so the catalyst was in place and the idea began to evolve during October 2013.
